Fishing in the Colorado Rocky Mountains

Float fishing at its finest this time of year.

As the days grow shorter and the waters drop on many local waters, the Colorado River fishing conditions just keep improving into the fall season. The Mountain Angler provides a private put-in and take-out on the Colorado River and on many days we never see another angler-let alone another boat. Water levels and temperatures are great right into October. The conditions are also great downriver below Glenwood Springs into November!

Fly Fishing Trip

Choosing the guided trip that is best for you can be puzzling. Generally, the trip you choose should be based on the time that you have available, the level of experience in as well as age and general fitness level. We also find that children under 14 and those with physical limitations do better on half-day trips.

Remember that all of our wade trips, 1/2 day and full day fly fishing trips can be taken as a lesson. If you have the time from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to do a full day lesson you will be to able to fish more and therefore learn more in a single full day lesson. Saving you time and money!

Although our Colorado River full float trips are great, they can be more difficult for catching fish for the beginner or novice fly fisherman. However, if you are looking for a day of adventure, awesome scenery and solitude while fishing a full day float on the Colorado River is for you! We use exclusive private put-ins and take-outs and rarely see anyone, let alone another angler!

Our full day lake float trips are for those anglers that desire a leisurely day on the water, with the chance to catch a true lunker trout. These fishing trips have become very popular for young and old alike.

Our private water wade and walk fishing trips are for those who know the value of “private water’. We have four exclusive ranch waters that provide the angler a day where he or she will be casting the only fly to hungry trout that day. We have miles and miles of this type of fishing and generally provide our clients with a grilled lunch at such famous locales as the “Rip Lip Lodge ” on the Middle Fork Ranch or the “Big Table” on the Holmestead Ranch. We also have non-exclusive properties around the area that provide a variety of waters for the angler.
